Keith and his coloured bowl

Today my Student was Keith and he turned out to be a hell of a nice bloke and as I was working on a Bank Holiday it made for a very nice relaxed day.
Keith got on so well he had time to colour the rim green his wife Bev's favourite colour.
I am sure she will be pleased with it Keith it is beautiful.
Very well done mate..

Alasdair todays Student

Today Alistair was my student, the day was a present from his Wife Liz.
Apparently Alistair had always had an interest in woodwork and had done a bit of turning at school .
We had a very enjoyable day and I must say he is a natural which made for an easy day for me. I know Alistair will be taking up turning because he bought a second hand lathe from me and a set of Crown tools.
Alistair will be joining our Burnham on Sea woodturning club so I will see how his work progresses

A very nice Sycamore bowl well done Alasdair

New Router Lift

Several years ago myself and my Brother Chris made two router tables complete with drawers and cupboard.
Chris upgrades his to include a Router lift as his gets used a lot and it certainly makes life easier.
Well I decided it was time to upgrade mine so I bought myself a Router lift from Axminster Tools and Chris and I went about the job of fitting it..
You would think a Router lift from Axminster tools would accommodate an Axminster Tools router I have four Routers and the only one that would fit was a 1/4" Router but the other three are 1/2" and that is what I wanted so it meant we had to alter the baseplate.
The baseplate has holes to fit a multitude of Routers and had so many holes we had a job to create four more to hold the Router of choice.
We managed with a bit of trial and error to create four more holes and mount the Router as you can see.
What should have been a quick simple job turned into a lot of work by the time we had cut out and routed the table top.
It was well worth the effort because before this it was very difficult to accurately adjust the cutter height.

Here are a few pics to show the end result
All fitted and ready for work.
As you can see there is a cupboard on the right and a drawer below and four on the right.
On the back above the table is the adjustable fence
At the rear is the outlet to take a dust extractor.

Bottom drawer full of odds and sods.
Cupboard on left hand side holds two  Routers
Bottom drawer on right bits and bobs
Second drawer on right hand side mostly 1/4" cutters plug cutters and chamfer bits
Third drawer 1/2" cutters and collets
 Top drawer sole plates ETC

These are the three Routers that are not fitted in the table

 A set of 1/2" cutters
 Set of Panel raising cutters
Trend dovetail jig I also have the plate to go with this for Box joint cutters

Oak Bowl 111

Just created another Oak Bowl I seem to be on a bit of a run with these.
This Bowl is 13" x 3"

Oak Bowl 11

This is the second of these bowls that I have made the one I made yesterday was 10" x 3" this one is 13" x 3" quite a lot more work.
I have made a wider rim on this one I think the wider rim or the narrower rim both work for me.

Oak Bowl

I have not made much lately because I have been busy teaching this is a Bowl I made yesterday.
A couple of days ago I visited my brother Chris in his workshop on the edge of Dartmoor http://www.dartmoorcreativewoodturning.co.uk/gallery.html
He had just finished a couple of nice Bowls and this is my version of those Bowls.
It is Oak carved scorched and lacquered.

Not my usual work

I don't normally do anything apart from woodturning but a close friends Mother has passed away and I have been asked to make the casket for her ashes
