I suppose the so called purists among us will be disgusted at what I have done with this Spalted Ash.
I have never really coloured spalted wood before so I was not sure how it would turn out.
After hollowing out i I sanded down to 600 grit and applied spirit stains with the lathe stopped.
I applied the stains with a soft rag covering the whole piece each time starting with red then Orange and finally yellow.
The light spots of spalting soaked up more colour and ended up darker which surprised me as I thought they would be lighter.
Two coats of Woodoc 20 were then applied allowing 24 Hrs between coats.
Here is the finished piece which I am very happy with.
Looks great! The colouring really lifts the piece out of the run of the mill.
